Virtual Racing Recap

Reports (restricted)

I hope everyone is well?

I just through I would send a note with some of the virtual racing results over the last month, also there are a few more races coming up as well if you would like to get involved. If you have not tried virtual racing I can highly recommend it!

BMC Bannister Mile

Basic premise here was to run a mile as fast as you can and discover there really is nowhere flat in Tunbridge Wells! I personally used a section on the Langton Road which several others seemed to as well; at this pace you really feel the undulations! I was pretty happy however with 5:14 ( my quickest on the track was 5:08). Patrick was the quickest Harrier and only 4 seconds quicker than me, although he claims he actually ran 5:04 but didn’t stop his watch in time (I believe him, honest). Pru also managed to just pip Hayley in the ladies competition also by 4 seconds. Anyway well done all, some excellent times there.

Podium 5km

Dan Watt, Hayley Larkin and myself took part in the Podium 5k virtual challenge. This was a face book based event where you had to do an out and back 5km route and submit your Garmin or Strava time. The basic premise was every 2 weeks the field would be cut by half with fastest runners making it through to the next round. However the rules seemed to get amended so only the fastest 80 Men and Women made it through to round 2. This was then whittled down to fastest 20 for round 3.

Unfortunately Hayley was eliminated in round 1 but myself (to my amazement) and Dan made it through to round 3. However round 3 involved breaking 15:33 mins to progress so I didn’t make it and I’m guessing Dan didn’t attempt it.

Round 1

  • Hayley Larkin –22:11 (eliminated)
  • Dan Watts – 17:34 (70th)
  • Mike King – 18:04 (78th)

Round 2

  • Mike King – 17:48 (1 second virtual 5km PB), eliminated.

Official results are on the Podium 5k Facebook page if you want to look.

TWC – April spring to spring

Well the racing certainly got going on the Calybeate spring challenge (Pantiles spring to the Dunorlan park spring).

Some great last minute racing with Dillion taking the crown from John Law on the last day, but in a cruel twist Mike Staddon then came along an hour later and in another display of his new form stole the crown from Dillon! Hayley also pipped Kate at the last minute, but in an even crueler twist Cathy let her have this for less than an hour to cement her place as the Queen of the TW challenge.

Upcoming races

There are quite a few but these are probably the most suitable to us.

· Hopefully we can run some form of virtual handicap as well.

Anyway hopefully everyone can still enjoy their running and please stay safe.

Regards

Mike
