TWH run – Wednesday 21st June 2023 – Longest day run

Club Events
Greetings Harriers,
This week David Castle is giving you a chance to look at the Brooks range of shoes before the run – get there from 6:30 if interested.
Wondering if you will survive the longest day run ?
Swap you battle fatigues for your running gear …..
I’m again this week’s Routemaster 🚌 (although MIA due to cycling in the Alps), so fasten your seat belts and here we go ……
This week’s run is a repeat of the classic Allan Cheek LDR that goes back as far as sundials and stone circles.
Modification to map for medium and long routes – the footpath after the “short cut re-group” has become more problematic and a footpath after “Forge House – through green railings” has been closed, so I suggest that as you emerge from Hurst Wood to arrive at “short cut re-group”, turn left on to Broomhill Road and then take the footpath immediately on your right which brings you on to Lower Green Road, then on to Speldhurst Hill and then the delights of the George & Dragon.
Possibly take a drink and definitely wear a bright top so you stand out on the busy road sections.
The full route is 8.9 miles, the medium route 7.5 miles and the shorter route 6 miles – something for everyone.
Plenty of re-groups please !
It is out via the back of the club rooms and Cumberland Walk and across the common, into Hurst Woods and on, and on ……..
There is normally a regroup at the George & Dragon car park in Speldhurst, where some choose to partake in a round of hydration before continuing on for either the medium or long routes.
It’s a mixture of on and off road so best to wear hi vis or something bright. The going should be firm and mostly dry,
No head torch will be needed this week.
Current forecast is for a sunny and dry 20C.
The bar staff from the cricket club will be behind the bar as usual upstairs after the run with the finest beer, wine and soft drinks in the immediate vicinity (at keen prices).
7:30 prompt start from the Nevill – change rooms, showers and bar all open – it’s time to commit !
