Greetings Harriers,
Often in running we ask ourselves what are we doing, why are we here ?
So this week I pose the question, what is a marathon ?
Runners over a certain age will know it as this:-
Runners beyond a certain age will know it as a rather unusual thing that happened in ancient Greece:-
The rest of us know it as 26.2 mile annual event in central London that is rightly back in in its usual April setting and where the great and the good of the running world go to run, marshal or support.
Off road it is still pretty muddy, but with drier weather ahead we should be off road for our run next week.
In the meantime, its pavements-are-us and we have Saul Harris as this week’s Routemaster , so fasten your seat belts and here we go ……
We have a 7.7 mile long route and a short route of 5.8 miles (and a myriad of shorter options for marathon hopefuls) – something for everyone.
No head torch will be needed this week.
Current forecast for Wednesday is for a possibly Spring-like, dry 9C.
Tea Total Trevor (or his summer alter ego) is hosting us in the bar afterwards, selling the finest beer (Harveys), AF lager and ale, wine and soft drinks in the immediate vicinity, at special prices, with crack sidekick and bon viveur, Rocky, so why not relax and have a drink with friends before you head home.
(please send more photos of Rocky on the back of a postcard to the usual address).
7:30 prompt start from the Nevill – change rooms, showers and bar all open – it’s time to commit !
