It’s been quite the weekend for Club Records….
Starting on Friday at the latest Serpentine Last Friday of the Month 5k, Steve Austin improved his own M65 record by 34 seconds, with a time of 21.11
Saturday then saw the last Open Track Meeting of the summer, hosted by Invicta East Kent in Canterbury and…..
In the 5000m, Amelie Karlsson set a new Senior Womens record of 19:26:25, Ali Farrall set an inaugural F50 record of 19:54:74 and Geoff Turner set an inaugural M60 record of 20:22:36 and that wasn’t all that was special in the race but more on that to come.
Next up Andy Joad – fresh from representing Great Britain at the European Triathlon Championships last weekend (along with Cathy Gill) – posted a new M60 400m record of 69.94, breaking Colin Ricketts record set just last month.
Then fresh from his 5k record the day before, Steve Austin raced to an inaugural F65 100m record of 15.84.
Not to be outdone, a couple of hours after her 5000m race, Amelie Karlsson ran the 1500m and set an inaugural SW record of 5:36:78.
Following closely after was the 300m event. Doubling up, Andy Joad ran a new M60 record of 50.82 and Steve Austin improved his own M65 record with a time of 54.53.
As if he hadn’t been busy enough, Steve Austin then completed the sprint treble and set an inaugural M65 200m record of 34.47.
Completing the day was the Mile race and our inimitable ‘Gillette’ Geoff Turner shaved a second off the M60 record, with a time of 6:24:42
So TEN club records in one afternoon, which is surely a club record in itself!
But finally, back to the 5000m race which kicked things off…..what was extra special was that we were privileged to take part in the same race as Clare Elms of Kent AC, as she ran a UK all time F60 record of 18:35:95 – amazing.
Fantastic running from everyone and two great days out
