TWH Anniversary Run

Club Events

All,

Just a reminder that our annual club anniversary run will take place this coming Sunday along the Forest Way.

A little background:

On Sunday, 31st October 1982, the Tunbridge Wells Runners (former name of the Harriers) held their first-ever internal club race along the old railway track we know today as Forest Way. On the day, 21 runners took part in a five and ten-mile race, which started at the Forest Way Country Park entrance just off the B2110 Withyham Road. (what3words: pokers.pampered.hurls)

Those running the 10-mile race ran as far as Forest Row before turning to return to finish where they started. The winner back in 1982 was Chris Hughes finishing in 67mins.

To celebrate the Anniversary of this first-ever club race, we would like to repeat the event on Sunday, 29th October 2023, starting in the same place at 9am!

There are two options for the run, either a 5 mile or a 10 mile route. Simply we run along the Forest Way from the junction and turn at either 2.5 or 5 miles to finish where we started. For those who have not run it before the Forest Way is a flat trail path but if it has been raining it may accrue some puddles and become slippery so trail shoes might be the preferred option.

Please note parking is very limited so please lift share where possible and if parking on a verge please ensure you do not disrupt the traffic.

Please note too the clocks are changing overnight before the run, so be careful not to turn up an hour early!

Last year we had an excellent turnout with over 40 Harriers joining the run. It would be great to have even more this year so please come along – everyone is welcome.

Look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning

Thanks,
