Tonbridge AC Mid Summer Relay, Penshurst Place, TN11 8DG. 3 * 4KM on Wednesday July 3rd, 19.00
Evening all.
To pre-empt the footwear question for Wednesday evening’s relays at Penshurst Place, I would suggest that road shoes or light trail shoes would be fine. The ground is dry and a little rutted on the off-road section until just before halfway (so perhaps not your best road shoes!), and you are then on concrete estate roads.
I’ve attached a gpx file should you wish to have a course recce before Wednesday, but be aware that the first 500m or so is on private land that won’t be accessible until about 5.30pm on race evening.
It won’t be obvious from the course map, but the first 1200m is uphill (amounting to 160 ft of ascent), but then it’s steadily downhill all the way until the 500m flat section to the finish. Essentially, perfect for someone like me that goes off like a lunatic and then hangs on for dear life until the finish!
Finally, I’d like to say on behalf of the organising committee that we were absolutely overwhelmed by the size of the entry from the Harriers. Thanks very much for the amazing support for the inaugural event. We’re hoping it’ll be as good as Beckenham, but obviously a bit closer to home.
Good luck, and I’ll see you there (or in the Leicester Arms afterwards).
Andy.
Course Director.
