Evening Harriers

We will be holding the 2023 edition of the TWH Summer Relays on Wednesday 23rd August. Last year’s event was a great success with 66 people competing in 22 teams. And just like last year, the club will be providing pizza again after the run :-).

The emphasis of the evening is on having fun and getting to know your fellow Harriers. Regardless of whether you regularly appear on the podium at local races or consider yourself more of a social runner, everyone is encouraged to take part, especially our newer members (see below for how the teams will be chosen).

To make the most of the rapidly dwindling daylight (and minimise admin on the night) we ask that you sign up before the evening. This can be done through the sign up link below.

Sign Up Form

This event would not be possible without the help of a number of volunteers. We need about 6 marshals plus another 4 people to manage the start/finish. If you are able to help please reply to this email (off group). Any offers of help will be much appreciated.

More details can be found below but if you have any questions please get in touch.

Kind regards
Simon Holford & Andrew Deighton

Each team will consist of 3 runners selected using a ‘level playing field’ algorithm to ensure that each team has a similar ability. Each team will be able to decide the order in which their runners run their respective legs.

We will be using the same course as last year, i.e. 2 laps of the Nevill grounds (main cricket pitch and training pitch) making a total distance of approximately 2.5 km per runner. Handover between runners will be in front of the pavilion and we’ll be encouraging everyone to be outside to cheer people on as they run around.

We will be using the recently trialled parkrun-esque timing system on the night. If you don’t have a parkrun barcode (or forget to bring yours) we will provide you with a temporary barcode on the night.

As well as overall team results there will also be individual results (for those that like to compare numbers).

Outline For The Evening
18:45 – 19:15 Check-in (i.e. come and scan your barcode or collect a temporary one)

19:15 Warmup led by Coach Sonja (we don’t want any pulled hamstrings!)

19:25 Memorial – before the start we will take a few moments to remember those members of our Harrier family who have sadly passed away during the last year.

19:30 Quick briefing explaining how everything will work, team announcements and start

21:00ish Pizza delivery (should be plenty of time to have a shower/get changed after the run)

In addition to announcing the results for the evening, there will also be a short presentation to award the outstanding Cornell Medals. For those who are new to the club, more information about these can be found here
