Stafford Half

Reports (restricted)

I woke up this morning to find that Wilmslow Half had been cancelled during the night because of residents scared of Corona carrying runners. We do spit a lot to be fair.

Luckily I found another half in Stafford that I could enter on the day, 45 min drive from my home in Leek. I was initially planning to do this as part of my London Marathon training so I had barely tapered. The gun went and 4 runners went off into the distance and a pack of 4 of us stuck together further back running around 5:30 pace for the first 8 miles. The course was undulating, pretty breezy with some twisty bits. The final 5 miles we fell off the pace a bit, going through 10 miles in 56 min then having to run a slippy gravel track in the 12th mile. The 13th mile was a sprint as the 4 of us battled for the best of the second pack. I managed 2nd from the pack and 6th overall in 1h14:06. Terrible scenery throughout as very towny so wouldn’t recommend it, but glad I could get in last minute. Dartford is actually more scenic. Hopefully I can get in a tapered race before all races are banned for the year.
