Sevenoaks 7

Sunday 10th July 2022

On a very warm Sunday morning, 28 Harriers headed to Knole Park in Sevenoaks for the (what was before Covid) annual Sevenoaks 7. Knole, for those not familiar, is a beautiful 950 acre National Trust deer park located near the centre of Sevenoaks. The race itself enjoys spectacular scenery and is pretty challenging with varying terrain and lots of undulation across its 7 mile course.

The 28th running of the event (after a 2 year hiatus) was included this year in the Kent Grand Prix Series this year. So, having run this event a few times in the past, its fair to say the field was larger and a bit more competitive than I’ve previously seen.

After what seemed like a 7 mile warm up walk to the start from race HQ, the Harriers team assembled for a team photo (please can someone circulate), before the off. The day was already warming up with blue skies, no clouds and temperatures approaching mid 20s by the 9am start.

Shortly after the start, a mishap with the lead runners missing the first turn (right) up the hill, carrying straight on. Fortunately called back quick enough to re-join the field! Aside from that the race was well marshalled with pockets of support around the two-lap (ish) course and welcome encouragement from Bob and Amanda in particular at various locations.

Congratulations to Liam White who prevailed as overall winner of the race, Dillon Hobbs in third place and Emily Nash as second lady (first lady, Kerstin Sung, Maidstone Harriers, 46.27).

Aside there were some decent placed finished from other Harriers in the field which will help yield some valuable KGP points for the club and we await these results.

Well earned prizes for the team, despite a few hiccups at the prize giving with Liam appearing to have actually won the junior race (?) and Colin (Coleen) Timmins awarded the F55 prize?? Oh, and Phil Watkins having run as a ghost (not actually being there but still receiving a time)!

Anyway, a great event (and one of my own favourites) that went well with good success achieved for the club and KGP points. Well done to all who took part and braved the hot and sweaty conditions!!
