Runthrough Newbury Racecourse

Reports

Myself and Will Levett made the trip over to Newbury on Saturday to take part in the Runthrough Newbury Racecourse 10k and 5k (respectively). Will was there to better his V45 5k club record of a couple of weeks ago (16:02), whilst I was just keen to put some of my recent furlough/redundancy training to good use in the 10k.

Billed as flat and predominantly on tarmac roads around the racecourse, it transpired one of those was accurate! I’d say 30% of the route was tarmac, the rest was pretty rugged, potholed gravel track. Add to that a couple of very sharp hairpins and the swerving around the half marathon runners, I was pleased to come away in 8th place with a time of 34:37 and Will finished 3rd in the 5k with 15:59, beating his own V45 club record.

I have to say, the event was fantastically well organised by Runthrough. Staggered rolling starts, brilliant friendly marshals, chip timing, nice medal, great comms and even free photos. Highly recommended.
