Firstly, apologies for missing the April deadline!
On Sunday 28th April, I completed the South Downs Marathon. This is an LDWA challenge, taking in 28 miles of the South Downs. It is a circular route crossing some of the most scenic countryside of the South Downs National Park including the Seven Sisters, Cuckmere Haven and Firle Beacon whilst also visiting the iconic villages of Litlington, Firle and Alfriston.
The weather started off a little damp but brightened up as the day went on. Ideal running conditions really, although a little chilly in the second third. As with all LDWA events this is more of a challenge than a race. Although, having said that, there were several runners chasing a good time.
The fastest time on the day was 5:11 (the LDWA don’t deal in seconds!). I ran 5:15, which was the second fastest and almost 30 minutes quicker than my time over the same course last year.
I love running on the South Downs and it was a great day out. Aid stations were well stocked and there was even a meal at the end. Lots of cake!
