Merry Sunny-Sunday Harriers ,
After a conversation from the father-in-law, it became apparent that having been the only Harrier running the Rye 5 miler this morning , a race report was absolutely essential.
So , here goes …
Whilst the majority opted for the more challenging half marathon in Chislehurst – which the ladies’ XC whatsapp group kept us all well up to date on performances – WELL DONE AMELIE!! – I opted for the less demanding Rye 5 miler.
Although the roads were not closed , this event took place on quiet, country roads with many a shady spot and MANY an incline. As it was a Sussex Grand Prix event , 95% opted for the longer 10 mile option. I was happy with the 5.
The 5 miler was an out and back with the ten option adding an extra loop further on to make up the distance. Ashford had fantastic results finishing in the top 3 men and top 2 ladies’ spots for the 5.
My official chip time was 45:39 which, given the week I have had and the lack of sleep provided by the 15 month old littlest one , I was chuffed to bits.
I could not be more thankful for the Harriers in welcoming me so warmly as I approach my nearly one year join-aversary. Although I may not be the quickest , I am getting there! Having shaved 12 minutes off my time at Hildenborough a couple of weeks ago , I could’ve only dreamed of getting in to sub 8:30mm when I felt I was stuck at 10s for so long when I first joined!
Thank you Harriers for giving these opportunities and carving out some dedicated running time on a Wednesday evening in the craziness of raising 2 young, beautiful girls who are my ultimate cheer leading squad!
Well done again to those at Chislehurst . I hope all now have a beer / glass of wine in hand and a BBQ happily cooking.
Happy Sunday
Holly Taylor.
