It’s a bit late as the race was last Sunday, when the deckchair had its first outing of the year in Wales. It was the Wales Marathon run from Tenby. This is part of the Long Course Weekend, where the ‘Ironman’ disciplines are carried out over 3 days. The good weather made for a potentially enjoyable run. However, 6 weeks ago I developed achilles tendonitis in both legs, and was told my chances of running the marathon were next to zero. I didn’t run for a month and made it to the start line with a 50% chance of finishing at best. I thought a DNF is better than a DNS. The race has a 6 hour cut off and in complete contrast to Ed’s fantastic win over his TAC opponent, I finished 8th from last in a time of 5:53:37, 811th out of 818. Still, I finished!
1st man was Liam Lloyd in 2:34:53, who was also the overall winner in 8:13:50
1st woman was Emily Marchant in 2:55:05, who was 2nd overall in 10:39:27.
A week later and I’m more or less back to normal but I’m giving it another week before contemplating a slow jog.
Hopefully, all will be better for Beachy Head in October.
Unfortunately, our holiday business here in Wales is now closed and we have sold Sannan Court. The imposition of massive new taxes by the Welsh government meant that the business became unviable. To the Harriers who visited during our 7 years of ownership of Sannan Court, I say a big ‘thank you’ for supporting us and hope you enjoyed yourselves in our beautiful part of rural South West Wales.

I love reading about the exploits of all the Harriers. It reminds me what a great club it is, and that we do what we do because we love it, and we CAN.
