Race Report: Farleton Knott Fell Race

Reports

Holidaying in the Lake District brought with it the inevitable prospect of rain, beautiful scenery, the M6 and fine ales. This year included a debut fell race for my birthday ‘treat’.

Farleton Knott Fell Race is a BOFRA (British Open Fell Runners Association) organised event comprising 2.6 miles of up (230m) and then down as fast and not necessarily as safely as you can. Well organised including the obligation to carry a jacket with you which I only realised at the last minute so had to take my walking waterproof tied round my waist.

Great to partake in a local running event which included many junior races – under 9s, 12s, 14s, 17s – before the seniors.

It was very hard going but great fun. The weather was kind too. 96 runners in total and I finished in 53rd with a time of 28’51. First man was Sam Bentham in 19’03 and First Lady was Leanne Scott in 26’39.

Give it a crack if you are up these parts!
