Race Report: East Peckham 10.5km

Reports

Evening Harriers,

Hope you are all sitting comfortably and waiting in great anticipation for another Sam Bridger race report…or more likely watching some Olympics.

I will keep this uncharacteristically short, mainly due to the fact that I actually have a busy week at work for once and I need to pour myself another beer…

Firstly congratulations to all 9 harriers who attended and all SMASHED their way to PB’s in the debut 10.5km race (statisticians please make room for these results in the official club archive…)

I was oddly first harrier to arrive shortly followed by Nicola and Gem then it was a small free for all as everyone collected numbers and went about their various warm up routines on what was a VERY hot morning in a wonderful East Peckham…not to be confused with the equally glorious Peckham in SE London.

The route to my knowledge was changed to a 10.5km distance due to a road closure somewhere…one can only assume a pothole needed a white circle painted around it rather than repairing it. It was a mildly undulating route but virtually flat and in cooler conditions and without the extra 500 meters surely a good crack at a genuine PB would usually be on the cards. (Promise the ginger fair skinned half scottish one isn’t complaining about the heat and sunshine)

My ‘race’ was purely one against myself…don’t run too fast and aggravate the Achilles more than it already is…and as you will see in the results below…I did just that.

Once everyone made it back safely over the finish line, there wasn’t much hanging around or at least there couldn’t have been as I have a trophy cabinet with more trophies than the Tottenham Hotspur trophy cabinet in my living room…

Nicola Morris FIRST in the FV50
Gem Stilliard FIRST in the FV45
Keith Mitchell FIRST in the MV45

(I will make a special guest appearance to Wednesday nights run to drop the trophies off and then leave my trophy cabinet in its former glory…empty)

As a whole, the race was well organised and I would recommend next year once the road closure hopefully opens up and returns to the traditional 10km distance.

Results as follows:

David Weston 336 Senior Male 00:37:31 00:37:31

Enjoy what is left of the weekend and the warm week ahead…I am off to pour that beer and search for more shade away from the sunlight.

Regards.
Sam Bridger
