Race Report: Dubrovnik Half

Reports

Last Sunday (28 April) I ran this stunning out-and-back half which starts in the old walled city and then goes to the Adriatic Sea.

Around 900 runners took part in the race, which is now in its eighth year, and which also has a 5K event.

The first and 12th miles are mostly uphill which, coupled with the heat, made the end of the race particularly challenging.

The atmosphere was lively with rock bands performing along the way. There were drink and food stations every 1.5 miles and, most impressively, they all had toilets.

I was hoping to run a 1:55 HM, but the heat, hills and my newfound love of Dunkin’ Donuts meant I ran it in 1:59:09.

The winners were John Mieszczanski who ran it in 1:14:57 and Lauren Johnson in 1:27:41 – both from the USA.

There was a full-on rave after the race. I never went to a rave in my twenties so was not about to go to one in my fifties. But I’d do this race again in a heartbeat!
