On a weekend of Kent XC champs (I know I, for one, am very much looking forward to Billy’s race report), everyone knows the real event was the Penshurst 5 mile XC on Sunday.
One of our fellow Harriers even tapered specially for it by missing the Champs*.
A nice civil 1130 am start saw a decent field of over 180 head off from the village hall, following the half marathon course before veering off left into ploughed fields, farmyards and ridiculously steep ups and downs.
With a satisfying amount of mud mixing with a local, friendly atmosphere, it really is a great little event.
Cake and Tea at the finish puts the icing on the cake.
It’s not really a race where people cared too much about time and position…
(….me being the notable and only exception when I asked for the other timing box to be downloaded after my placing and time appeared wrong which would have meant a paper loss to Mr Taper^)
Fortunately all was rectified in the end… phew!
Apologies if I’ve missed anyone, not everyone entered as TWH given the nature of the race.
Also I have noticed, as I wrote the results out long hand on my phone (ouch) that a shedload of Harriers entered!
