Myra Garrett 10k

Stewards Enquiry at Danson Park!

13 Harriers (11 men and 2 ladies) ran the fairly low key Myra Garrett 10K in Danson Park this morning, a challenging and undulating 2 loop trail route, made up of the old and new Cross Country courses. With the 11am start the challenge wasn’t just the course in this public park, we also had to dodge the dogs, be aware of the bikes and navigate 90 degree turns through narrow gates, phew! Although the marshaling was great along the route, I now question the administration of the race, with a few ghost runners finishing, and some not even appearing on the list, spooky!

Only 179 runners completed the course with Ben Matthews (Bexley AC) the winner in 36:33 and the first lady was Claire Cornwell (Bexley AC) in 40:17.

To the Harrier results (individual times listed below):
It was great to see the first five Harriers cross the line in under 40mins, an achievement in itself. Craig Chapman was first home in 37:40, followed by Mark Gamage in 37:50 and then Lloyd Collier in 38:35. For the ladies, Sarah Barker was first home in 58:31 followed by Ruth Burton in 60:58. Our team effort brought home some prizes:

· 3rd (as 3rd finisher was also 1stM40) – Craig Chapman

· 2nd Men’s Team (Craig Chapman, Mark Gamage, Lloyd Collier) – No actual prize, we lost out to Orpington by only 1pt, doh!
