Reports

Thanks Geoff for publicising my time, I was hoping to keep that one quiet 😉.

I was originally targeting a sub four hour (just) finish when I submitted my deferred entry last August but a combination of injury and work commitments meant that I didn’t get on top of my training until mid to late February. When I remembered to log back in to drop my time to 4:30-4:40 I had missed the cut-off deadline so found myself lined up in Wave 6 last Sunday alongside the 4 hour pacers!
Given the temperature and my lack of training I should have been targeting a lacklustre 5 hour time but I inevitably went off too quickly and the heat got to me around mile 14. It soon became clear that the day was not panning out quite how I had planned but I managed to persevere, actually enjoyed it, soaked up the atmosphere and “got it” (so many people had shouted at me “you’ve got this” on the way round).
Over an hour slower than Brighton and only an hour quicker than Médoc (and I didn’t even have a single glass of wine on Sunday!) but an absolutely amazing day and I hope to be back to complete unfinished business – just don’t tell my wife.
Congratulations to all who ran on Sunday, complete respect for your performances in those conditions 👏👏👏.
Best regards
Philip Watkins
