KXCL Danson Park – Results and Report

Afternoon Harriers

Yesterday afternoon 30 Harriers took part in the third Kent XC League meeting at Danson Park, nr. Bexley.

Usually the Senior Women race at Danson Park but Kent decided to shake up the fixtures list for a change this year. Sam Dranga and Paul Kromm were looking very official with their clipboards and hi-viz supervising the junior races at the finish line when I went to collect race numbers. As usual the races took part on the grassy area south of the lake with the usual loopy loops. Although the ground had softened up quite a bit after the recent rain, we were treated to blue skies and sunshine all afternoon .

Our SuperVet women, Stella Richardson and Margaret Deighton, were first to race, running a 5 km course consisting of one short and two longer loops. After winning the race at Somerhill, Stella put on another great performance to finish first again. Well done Stella!

Next, 28 of our Senior Men lined up for what promised to be a fast race. A soft but firm, grassy 8km course consisting of one shorter lap and three large laps.

It was amazing to watch the race and the eventual race winner Teweldebrhan Menges. He pulled away from the pack within 200m of the start line and by the last lap was so far ahead that he might as well have been running a different race!

There were strong performances across the Harrier’s team with Alex Jeffries finishing first for us. He was followed by Ed Steele, Alex Holmes and Gareth Heron to make up the 4 to score. The 12 to score was completed by Mike Staddon, Mike King, Geoff Turner, Stuart Corke, Robin Barwick, Richard Bysouth, Richard Craig-McFeely and Mark Godsalve.

We managed to improve our standing in both the 4 to score and 12 to score competitions, moving up to 7th and 6th places respectively. Well done guys!

The cake offerings afterwards were to the usual high standard with special mention going to the perfectly iced cake provided by Master Baker Steele 🙂
