Kent XC League – Event 3 – Danson Park

Reports (restricted)

Dear Harriers

Kent League Event 3 (women only) took place yesterday at Danson Park, Bexley. The muddy conditions together with changes to the course, which added some new loops and a few metres more of elevation, meant that it was not quite as fast and flat as in previous years.

Despite the cold, damp weather, and Claire’s stunt woman style reversing in the car park, we managed to assemble twelve women and two M70s at the start line. With Cathy now sporting her speedy fluorescent orange shoes it was time for the leopard skin spikes to give new owner, Carol a run for her money!

Cathy Gill was first Harrier home, for the third time in a row, romping home in 20:35 and 22nd place, followed by Jillian Holford (39th) with Gemma Stilliard (74th) making up the three to score. Gemma was closely followed by Michele Bradshaw (75th), Clare Andrew (99th) and Amanda Smith (100th) to make up the six to score. There were some interesting patterns in the results with Gemma & Michele, Clare & Amanda and Louise & Claire finishing in consecutive pairs (see in bold below). I’m not sure what to make of this but it did make it easier to cut and paste the results! Ian Bracken and Bryon Taylor finished in 9th and 11th place respectively in the M70 race. Please see results below.

Looking at the overall standings there are some impressive results for the three races so far with Cathy currently in 16th place and Michele Bradshaw 2nd in the W55 category. Keep up the good work ladies!

Thanks to all who came along to race and support. The next Kent League event for the women is not until February but there are plenty of other cross country events to keep us going in the meantime. As mentioned in recent emails, the next event is the South of the Thames 5 mile race on 23rd November. Ed is currently taking entries for that and I am taking entries for the Kent

Vets on 30th November.
