Kent XC League 2017 – Footscray Meadows

Reports (restricted)

Harriers,

Our senior men returned to February’s venue of Footscray Meadows, near
Sidcup for the 3rd venue of the Kent XC League. A typically twisting course
with deceptive hills but ideal for spectators! The course matched earlier
this year, with a short clatter of spikes over a path followed by a
downhill surge across the fields for 3 laps. It was good to see clubmates
grouping together for support throughout the race, with a few surprises by
the second lap. Conditions were certainly a lot more traditional than the
first two races, a veritable mudfest.

Turnout was again very high, with 263 finishers in the senior men’s race
and 18 harriers competing, sadly smashed by Tonbridge AC putting out an
astonishing 30 runners.

The men’s 10k race was led home by Ryan Driscoll of Tonbridge AC. First for
TWH was newcomer Sam Grain (84th) not knowing his own prowess, chased
throughout by Matt Clements (89th). Casper Morris (120th) and Alex Blackall
(121st) finally got to make up the 4 to score. They were followed by Simon
Whitaker (128th), Richard Carter (133rd), Simon Howden (145th), Dave
Haddaway (147th), Colin Timmins (168th), Ben Muir (175th), Geoff Turner
(176th) and Neil Clark (183rd) to make up the ‘Duodec’ 12 to score.

4 to score – 14th out of 22 teams (12th in the league)
12 to score – 9th out of 10 teams (8th in the league)

So I’m not tooting my own horn, I’ll let Alex finish the report regarding
spectators and baking.

“Well done to all who ran, and thanks must go to; everyone who shouts from
the side, Ed for more brilliant photos, and all the bakers whose wares are
such an effective incentive to finish as quickly as possible. The slimmer’s
choice double layer, caramel filled, heart shaped billionaires shortbreads
worth a special mention!”

Post-race venue was One In The Wood in nearby Bromley, a lovely little pub
from a converted shop, much like Fuggles but with the ability to actually
stand/move in it.

Next races are in under two weeks with the ladies and V70s at Danson Park
and everyone else heading up to Beckenham Place for the first South of the
Thames race.

*PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP AND BRING YOUR RACE NUMBER AGAIN*
