Evening Harriers
Saturday saw the fourth Kent League Race of the season, at Swanley Park. Whilst the venue was familiar to most, previous years had seen largely dry and firm conditions, so a bit of rain and mud added another dimension, especially on the downhill sections. In the absence of the gazebo, we used a calzone style ground sheet arrangement to keep our kit dry – which seemed to work rather well.
The Supervets were off first and Michele Bradshaw maintained a good lead for most of the race before eventually finishing a close second behind Orpington’s Janet Lenton. Lucille Johannes finished in third place. Michele’s strong and consistent performance over the four races earned her first place overall in this year’s W65 competition. Well done Michele!
After a team photo, our senior women jogged in formation, to the start line, in an attempt to intimidate the competition with our 12 strong team. The strength of our team remained evident throughout the race. Emily Nash (traveling all the way from Ipswich) put in a superb performance finishing in third place, followed by Amelie Karlsson in fifth. Ali Farrall finished in 20th position to complete the three-to-score. Tara Taylor, Vicky Eames and Jillian Holford made up the six-to-score. Although there is no prize for a ‘dirty dozen’ in the women’s race, TWH women were ably supported by Sonja King, Julie McPherson, Suzannah Kinsella, Rose Sawyer, Dian Osborn and, Alison Beard who was making a welcome return to cross country having last run for TWH in 2015.
TWH senior women finished in second place in both the 3-to-score and the six-to score. There was another notable performance from Tara Taylor, who finished in first position in the W55 category.
Overall a fantastic afternoon’s racing. Well done to all who took part and many thanks to those who came to support and marshal.
