Dear All
With the Cross Country season drawing to a close, the road season returns and with it the Kent Grand Prix!. For those who don’t know, this is a series of races spread across the year, with runners scoring points based on their finishing position (1st = 100, 2nd = 99 etc). There is both an individual and team competition, with the best 5 results counting towards the final table. More info here:
The first event, Paddock Wood Half, is on March 13th. It’s a super fast course, with the only hills of note being bridges over the railway! So PBs are definitely possible, registration is via the link here.
Following that, the second event of the season is Folkestone 10 on April 15th (Good Friday). It’s another super flat and quick course and makes for a brilliant day out on the south coast. Traditionally we get a brilliant Harriers turn out, possibly because of the post run fish and chips on the beach after! Entries via the link here
So to the Kent Grand prix in general – this year there are 8 events total and the best 5 club results count. As the current holders, we’ve got a trophy to defend! It’s worth mentioning that taking part in the Kent Grand Prix is a great chance to meet other runners from the club (which isn’t always easy on a club night!), whilst improving your running and introducing you to different distances that you might not normally consider racing. It’s great fun being encouraged by other club members and it would be brilliant to generate the same type of group spirit we get at the Kent XC events – so cake etc is more than welcome 🙂 I’ve put together a quick poll to assess interest in each race (no obligation to enter at the moment, mainly to get an idea of numbers): Poll
Thanks and hopefully see as many of you as possible at the events this year. Also please if you are new or have any reservations then please come and introduce yourself to either myself or Nicola on either the club nights or future events.
Regards,
Alex
