Harvel5

Reports

Saturday 5th June, Harvel5 saw a very modest turnout of 5 Hardy Tunbridge Wells Harriers, but the race and event was as enjoyable as ever. As usual at Harvel, Gun Time really is ‘Gun’ time as the race is started by a farmer with a rather dangerous looking 12 bore shotgun, much to the surprise of those not quite ready or expecting it. Those who have run it will testify that it is a tricky course to pace as Miles 1 and 2 work generally uphill and transition onto a trail in Trossley Country Park. The trail can be muddy but today was dry in most parts. The route out and back in the park is largely flat although a testing short uphill section awaits at the end of mile 4 as you exit the park before working your way back downhill towards the finish.

Simon Holford took an early advantage in the Harriers race, with Jillian Holford and Colin Ricketts holding back a little on the uphill section. Ana-Maria Green and Michael Kennard started a little further back on the start line running the race and finishing together. Colin passed Simon before entering the park only to then find him draughting on his shoulder with 1.5 miles to go. A burst of speed and a 6:30 min last mile to boot, Colin Ricketts was ‘First Harrier Home’ followed by Simon, Jillian (Personal Best), Ana-Maria (Personal Best) and Michael. Colin got a Best 5 Miler as M50 and Michael got Best 5 Miler as M45.

As always the atmosphere on the green was great and the race well organised. Full results: Colin Ricketts 35:59, Simon Holford 36:09, Jillian Holford 36:45, Ana-Maria Green 40:58, Michael Kennard 40:56.
