Goudhurst 10k Race Report (and Track Plug)

Reports

The cold and drizzly weather on Sunday seemed like a great opportunity to drag my family to a farmer’s field in Goudhurst to watch me run.

The race started at 10:30, enabling us to fit in Junior Park  at Tonbridge, arriving at the Goudhurst course just in time for my eldest son to compete in the Children’s pre-race. It is not a big event (146 on the 10K  and 47 on the 5k) but it is held for the local PTA and with the childrens’ run before hand, and the 5k and 10k run at the same time there was always something going on and was a good one to watch for any supporters.

The race started in a field at Risebridge Farm and went out on to the roads surrounding Goudhurst. The route was undulating but the most challenging part was an off-road section through a field just before the steepest hill on the course. The 10k course was two laps and some of it was out and back so although I was pretty much in isolation in race position you actually got to see a lot of fellow runners including 5 fellow Harriers

I had never got under 40 before but had been training well, especially at track. After the initial madness at the start I settled down to average 4min/km with the plan to finish quick in the last 500m.  Overall it worked and managed to finish in 39:51!

A really good local event and one I enjoyed, not one to base your season around but certainly I would do again.

Anyway on to Track training..

This year I really wanted to look to improve and one of the things I decided was to attend track training as much as possible, I think I have only missed three so far this year.  Luckily James has provided all the details on this so no need to repeat but I would agree with everything he says.  All the sessions I have done with the Harriers have been excellent but am especially a huge fan of the track sessions and I think it has made a real difference in my running this year. Special thanks to all the track coaches and everyone who has given me a lift back.
