Today, amongst a host of other events, was the Eastbourne Half Marathon.
Set on the coast (=windy) it winds up from Princes Park to most of the way up Beachy Head before heading down the Promenade to Sovereign Harbour. From mile 10 or so, it was straight into the wind (although ironically better conditions than last year because it wasn’t raining) but at over 25mph it was a tough finish.
I was lucky to run, being in Eastbourne to celebrate a wedding anniversary away from the kids. It was too tempting to enter the day before and tell the wife I’d have gone for a run anyway. Funnily enough the chap I ended up sprinting out Seaford parkrun with on Saturday came past me at 10 miles with a cheery wave.
My excuse for not quite having the strength at the back end of the race was my week ticked over 100km and I’d had a few wines the night before…
Bumped into another deckchair in Mike Rimmer both before and after, who ran a cracking race.
