On a clear Sunday morning, just south of Tunbridge Wells (approx 18,000km south) two well travelled Deckchairs ran in the DeCastella Run, a series of races ranging from 5-15 kms in length.
Named after the famed Aussie marathon legend, Rob de Castella, this is a great race run on closed roads around the Yarra River in Kew, Melbourne. While it is run around the river it is a very hilly course, especially given how flat Melbourne is.
It became very apparent how we had lost our hill running condition and it was certainly more of a struggle as we started down (and hence finished up) on a steep mile-long stretch, with several sharp inclines in between.
In the end we were both happy with our times, first race for a while and I even got a few “Go Tunbridge Wells” as the marshals would read the back of our singlets.(yes I was running that slowly)
Matt – 1:05:34
Pru – 1:07:59
Lucy ran her first 10km with a very respectable sub 56 mins, coming 4th in her age group.
Olly ran the 5km in 18:27, coming 4th male overall and 3rd U17, proudly running in his Judd vest.
Was great to wear the deckchair again.
Hope you are all well
Matt.
