The Grand Slam of 50s award is recognition for those who complete all 4 Centurion 50 mile events within a calendar year. In order to be eligible for the award, entrants must enter and finish each of the individual Centurion 50 mile events within the cut off times of each race.
Well over a year ago I started prepping for what I knew was going to be one hell of a tough year. Lots of hilly training marathons from the freezing extremities of Molyeman Marathon in February in the snow on top of the downs through to one of the hottest marathons Three Forts in May again on the exposed downs with no shade. Not only was this going to a physical challenge but I have had to develop mental endurance, strength and stamina too.
Staying fit and recovering in between ultras, especially keeping the distances going through the summer months has been the hardest thing I have ever done!
Of course I could not have even got to the end of the races if it wasn’t for Andy planning and prepping each crew stop and in moments of confusion reminding me to eat and stay on track and picking me up during my meltdowns and wobbles.
I am absolutely thrilled to have completed the Centurion Grand Slam this year! Not a lot more to say except that I am grinning constantly and feeling very giddy!
