Good Morning Harriers
It was very cold this morning when I left home to attend the 2022 TWH Club Road Race Championships. 19 intrepid Harriers braved the cold and set off just after 8:30 to test themselves on a course that has remained constant since the first running of this race in 1986. Since that time the 30 minute barrier had only been broken by two Tunbridge Wells Runners (Harriers) – Tony Baldock (1987, 1988 and 1990) and Andy Howey (1993). In a great race this morning Dillon Hobbs joined this select band, running 29:53, edging out Alex Reid by some 26 seconds. In the ladies race Nicola Morris came home in front, seven years after her previous overall victory in 41:42.
In the various Age Categories it was good to note that new names will appear on many of the trophies this year following some good battles along the way and Des O’Donnell returning after 10 years to pick up his new Age Category trophy.
As ever, these events don’t organise themselves and thanks must go out to Andy Howey for ensuring the course was suitably checked and marked out and to Ian Bracken for marshalling and to our Road Race captain Nicola for ensuring that the event took place with all the required back up. Although the final half mile was interrupted by some works that closed the pavement, all passed off without incident and I could go home for breakfast!!
