2020 Handicap – we’re back but with a difference!

News (restricted)

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen most of you – hope you are safe and well.

Andy’s update from last night set the scene – extract below re Handicap.

The Club Summer Handicap will go ahead, but obviously with a different format:

  • A 5k course, nominated by the club, with possibly a different course each month.
  • One week to complete your run and report your time.
  • The Speldhurst Trophy will be awarded at the end of the four event series – this is the real thing, not a virtual event!

Key points

  • Real running but a virtual event – you must not congregate in groups of more than 6 as per government guidelines
  • Personal Safety. As always, you are responsible for your own safety. Watch out for cars, wear something bright and give everyone their space.
  • There will be NO MARSHALLS so familiarise yourself with the route in advance
  • Link to this week’s route is here. Actually 5.3k. Has some hills so that there is some similarity with the usual course
  • Start from the corner of Forest Road and Benham Mill Road. Down Benham Mill Road past the golf course and up to the junction with Hawkenbury Road. Turn left then follow the course all the way back to Forest Road and back to the start.
  • Send me your times by Email and I will update the spreadsheet. I may be able to pick up times from the strava segments, but probably not this time
  • Your 10k handicap times from 2019 will be adjusted to reflect the reduced distance. If you did not compete in the 2019 handicap series and wish to compete this year, please send me your time from a recent 5k race / park run
  • You can run any time from now with a cut off of next Tuesday

I will compile the results on Wednesday and send out the results by Email with an update on the website

I can be reached via the ‘Handicap 10k’ setting on the contact page

Let me know if you have any questions.

Otherwise, safe running and look forward to receiving your Emails with your times.
