Club Championships 2018

I seem to remember that last year I got wet at the Club Championships.
Today was no different as nineteen hardy souls prepared to do battle
with the wet conditions on the traditional tough course that has
remained unchanged for over thirty years. I don’t think the puddles
were as deep this year, but there was some “in house” course
adjustment before the race as some Road Works cones were moved to
allow safe passage along a short section of the road near the
beginning of the race.

In the Men’s Race it was always going to be how close Billy Hobbs
could get to the outstanding course record of Tony Baldock set some
twenty-eight years ago. Conditions had put paid to any serious chase
and Billy finished in an excellent time of 30:40, almost two minutes
outside the record, but still looking as if he hadn’t run yet. A Men’s
record did fall with Andy Howey continuing to rewrite the M55 Record
