[UPDATED May 13th, 2018 at 09:50 am]
As has been mentioned before and will be again the bank holiday was hot ( too hot for a ten mile race ) seemed to be what everyone was saying to me after I had signed up for the 10.
Hildenborough is a lovely 5 mile course (two laps for the ten ) or a short cut for the 2.5 mile option .
So after all the children had run their age group races in the morning we all lined up on the start line at 2.30 pm.
I had a good run following John Baldock for the first 5 miles keen not to over cook it and then push on later if the heat didn’t get me .At 6 miles it got John , I saw him take his hat off and straight away thought that he was struggling. He slowed down and I went passed the rest of the race was spent trying to catch the next runner telling myself “I bet he’s over 50” .
I got closer and closer but didn’t quite get him luckily for me he wasn’t an m50 .
A lot of runners swapped to the 5 mile option on the day or pulled out after one lap and they also had 4 DNF’S so only 51 finishers for the 10 mile .
Mike King had great delight telling me I was 5th, him being 6th in the 5 mile event meant I had to write this rubbish.
