Kent Cross Country League, Sparrows Den, West Wickham (MEN ONLY)

Race date:
3 December 2011
Location:
Sparrows Den, West Wickham

Saturday 3rd December was the third of the Kent League Cross Country fixtures at Sparrows Den in West Wickham.

Overall turnout was unfortunately down on the record numbers seen at Swanley, Somerhill and Danson Park but with good weather and support from some veteran harriers, it proved an enjoyable day out for the team.

After the ladies only Danson Park, this time it was the male only race. Thirteen Harriers took park in some surprisingly dry and sunny conditions after the race cancellation last year and the recent bouts of rain. Unusually for a XC race there was no pre-lap to spread the field out, leading to some congestion when entering the forest and a number of comments from runners around me. If memory serves me correctly, the old course did a half-lap of the fields, something for the course organisers next year.

First home for the harriers was Simon Whitaker in 51st place, followed by Dave Hadaway in 61st, Terry Everest 71st and making up the four to score was Daryl Palfrey in 79th and his 20th or so running of the course!

The Duodec was then made up by Ed Steele just holding off a last lap battle from Matt Clements, Dan Watt, Casper Morris, George Harris, Ed Bates, Mike Russell and Simon Holford.
