Deal 5m (Kent Grand Prix)
The Deal 5m was the last of the 11 race Kent Grand Prix series.
Craig Chapman, TWH Road Race Captain, reports:
Firstly can I say how overwhelmed I was to see so many deckchairs a long way from home for such a short race. My sincere thanks to the 38 Harriers who turned up for a wet and windy run along Deal’s Promenade. This may even be a record TWH turnout for a road race (excluding the TW Half Marathon).
Even though it was a flat 5 mile course (known for getting PBs) it had its challenges, with nearly 3 miles of running into a strong headwind and dodging oncoming runners around the half way point as we all had to share a narrow footpath because of the large reservoir like puddles covering the off-road section.
374 runners took part and the first TWH was Chris Wolton in 28:27 (finishing 9th overall), first TWH lady was Alice Heather-Hayes in 31:21 (finishing 47th overall).
Well, we did it, congratulations to everyone (individual times below). The men have won the Kent Grand Prix (KGP) for the 4th year running beating Maidstone by nearly 300pts. This year we ran 11 races so the team results take into account our best 10 races (lowest scoring race removed). For the ladies another great achievement, finishing 4th which is the best finishing position in 4yrs, please give yourselves a big pat on the back and enjoy that well earned drink tonight!!
It looks like Terry has just pipped Des and is the first TWH completing 9 KGP races and scoring 545pts, Des completed 7 races and scored 542pts. Further individual details and confirmed team results once the official KGP results are received.
Race prizes on the day included men’s team, Chris, Terry, Des and John, and 3rd lady went to Alice. Well done!
