Track and Field Open Meetings

Message from Ian Wylie:

Participating in track and field events is a great way of injecting fun into your normal training routine. It could also add to those already doing speed training.

Tonbridge AC are hosting their series of track and field events again this year and they are open to all. The evenings are friendly and entertaining and the standard of competition among the seniors and vets is completely mixed. They particularly welcome newbies so if you fancied trying out something different, e.g. discuss, pole vault! or the steeplechase, why not give it a go. You don't need any special equipment, running flats would do.

Their first day is on Easter Monday, 13th April, followed by evening meets on the first Tuesday of the month from May - August. Details of the races can be downloaded via the Tonbridge Athletic Club website.

NB: there are still a lot of empty slots in the club records for age groups and this could be a chance for you to bag a record or two. Running a 5K on the track also helps in setting a personal best time.

PS: This may not suit everyone (especially those deep in marathon training) so please consult a trainer / coach before entering any new event.
