Kent Grand Prix standings after 7 races

After the Cliffe Woods 10K, the 7th round of the Kent Grand Prix, the team standings are as follows:

Men

1 Tunbridge Wells Harriers 2954

2 Invicta East Kent 2903

3 Larkfield AC 2369

In the first 4 races we outscored Invicta East Kent, but in the last 3, Canterbury Half Marathon, Harvel 5 and the Cliffe Woods 10K, they have outscored us and reduced our lead to 51 points with 3 races to go.

Kent Coastal Marathon 6th September plus Kent Champs

This was our 'trump card' last year as we had a strong team and our 1st six finishers all scored very well. Our rivals didn't put out strong teams, with Paddock Wood, our nearest rivals, only having 2 entrants as far as I remember. We are unlikely to have such a free scoring day this year as I am sure other clubs will have noticed our tactics and enter more runners. All we can do is enter as strong a team as possible and run our best - simple! Last year we won the team trophy and silver in the Kent Champs.

Folkstone Half Marathon 27th September plus Kent Champs

Again, as strong a team as possible is needed for this one as many clubs have strong teams for halves.

Wilmington 10K 25th October

After the result at Cliffe Woods, we know that Invicta will field a very strong team so we have to try to ensure we have accrued enough points to hold off their challenge and retain the overall team title. Sadly, this is the day after 'Beachy Head' and the first cross country of the season.

Women

1 Maidstone Harriers 1007

2 Larkfield AC 921

3 Paddock Wood AC 764

4 Tunbridge Wells Harriers 527

Our women are doing very well despite us not fielding a full team for each event so far. In the Kent Marathon, you only have to finish to score a hatfull of points for the club, so let's try and get as many of you ladies as possible to run in the last 3 races of the season. You never know, you might even enjoy it!!

It could well be an exciting and close run finish to the season, more exciting maybe, than 'The Ashes'.

The full Grand Prix standings are now available (278Kb Excel file).
