Summer Run & BBQ

Event date:
8 August 2010
Event time:
9:30 am
Location:
Greenacres, Cottenden Rd, Stonegate, Wadhurst, East Sussex TN5 7DY

Many thanks to Derek Harrison for hosting the TWH Summer BBQ - using his place at Greenacres,
Cottenden Rd, Stonegate, Wadhurst, East Sussex TN5 7DY.

Meet at Derek's at 9:30am for the 12 mile run, or 10:00am for either a 4 mile walk or 6 mile mainly off-road run following a flour trail, followed by a BBQ and beer!

If anyone is not running/walking there will be a third option of a bike ride. We'll leave from the BBQ base at Derek's house at 10:00am, for a gentle 2-2.5 hours on-road cycle around the environs of Wadhurst, to get back around the same time as the runners for food and beer. This will not be a mad training thrash, rather a comfortable ride through the lanes...

All welcome to the BBQ - bring families, kids, friends etc. Non-runners can join up at around midday when runners should be back and ready for the feast.

Beer, wine, soft drinks, baps, bread, sauces and BBQ equipment will be provided, but bring your own meat and other tasty morsels for the BBQ, along with a salad/accompaniment to share. Plates, cutlery and cups of the outdoor plastic variety also supplied.

A few deckchairs may not go amiss too, if you have room in your cars!

Parking is limited, so please car share where possible and do park considerately. There is the village hall just along from Derek’s where we can park also.

Please email me direct or use the "Social events" drop down box on the contact us section of the website if you’ve got any questions, or see me Wednesday.

Hope to see you all there!

Rosie

Update from Derek Harrison 2nd August:

Had a leisurely run around the long route this morning and it took 2.20.  Just thinking that 9.30 may be a better time to set off on that one to get us all back around midday.  The walk should take no more than 1.30 with the shorter run taking about the same.

On both the medium and long runs there are some overgrown areas so leggings may be advisable over shorts.  Not too bad, just the usual brambles/nettles in some places.

Haven't heard any weather forecasts for next weekend yet, but hopefully the flour won't be washed away overnight.  There will also be printed directions available for each route.

I've been asked about dogs on the route.  All the routes are on public rights of way except for the first and last couple of hundred metres which are over a neighbour's field so dogs must be on leads here. Also the routes cross many areas of stock fields and farms so the usual rules apply to dogs and gates. It is imperative that no gates are left open that were not open on approach, therefore, if you leave a gate open for someone following close behind, please let him or her know that the gate needs to be closed afterwards.  To be safe, if the following people are more than a few seconds behind, close the gate, and let them open it again, or wait for them to pass and close it yourself.  In the garden afterwards, dog owners are, of course, responsible for clearing up.
